Action Prototype adds rapid to growth

Business has been quite good for Action Prototype & Urethane Casting, prompting the company to move into a larger facility on the Action Enterprise’s campus in Anaheim, CA. The new facility has 5000 ft2, more than double the former space in which the company was operating. “We were just a startup a year ago, so we only had 1500 ft2 of space,” said Chris Wentworth, co-owner and president of Action Prototype.

The company also added more equipment including more processing chambers and pressure pots for processing the urethane castings, and more personnel that brings to seven the total number of people. “We’re now better able to service our customers’ growing needs,” says Wentworth.

Just over half of the company’s business is urethane castings for low-volume parts that help customers get production parts without having to build tooling. Wentworth said that side of the business has been keeping him very busy.

“On the rapid prototyping side, I place orders just about every day to a company that we’ve partnered with 3Dproparts, a company that makes a variety of rapid prototypes in SLA and SLS,” says Wentworth, who also acts as a sales rep for 3Dproparts. “This gives me more options, a variety of materials to meet my customers’ needs, and with next day delivery service, it’s quick and easy. Without them I’d have a harder time doing what I’m doing, because I specialize in urethane casting.” mpweditorial@cancom.com
