K Day Seven

It's the second-to-last day of K 2010, and our staff is working on the final day's edition of the K Show Daily. We've had a great time at the K, as we always do, racing around the fairgrounds to gather up the news for the show daily, and seeing old friends and making new ones along the way. We'll continue to bring you news from the K here at PlasticsToday and via NewsFeed, and then in the joint MPW/IMM K Showcase special issue in December. In the meantime, as we put our final show daily issue to bed, we'd like to thank everyone who took the time to speak with us and thank the Messe Düsseldorf folks for putting on another great show. It's been a blast!
From the show floor (Nov. 2)
Graham Packaging: Through a licensing agreement with Japan’s Tahara Machinery, Graham Packaging is manufacturing ESM series all-electric extrusion blowmolding machines at its affiliate in Poland. The second machine manufactured by Graham Packaging Poland is on show at K at The Japan Steel Works (JSW) booth (Stand 14C37-1). JSW is the parent company of Tahara. Read more here.
Hosokawa Alpine: To display the flexibility of its extrusion technology and the structure of the film, Hosokawa Alpine (Stand 16D6) has run three different versions of a five-layer film structure at its booth during the show, using polyolefins from ExxonMobil Chemical, Nova Chemicals (Stand 6A43), and Sabic (Stand 6D42), all without edge trim. Nissei ASB: “The K is where we launch the majority of our products,” said Jamie Pace, VP and general manager of Nissei ASB Company, the Atlanta, GA-based subsidiary of Japan’s Nissei ASB (Stand 14B38), and this show is no exception, with two new machines on the company’s stand. Read more here.
Erema Engineering Recycling: Recycling multilayer, heavily printed film, moist materials, and highly contaminated plastics into pellets suitable for use in high-quality film products is now possible with the Erema TVEplus series from Erema Engineering Recycling (Stand 9C05). On show at K is the 1310 version with screw diameter of 100 mm with capacity up to 650 kg/hr. Read more here.
Albemarle: Albemarle (Stand 6D61) is a specialty chemical solutions company based in the U.S. that has taken a new look at fire safety and flame retardants. The company has set up a new division called Earthwise, which represents a family of products that follows strict environmentally friendly standards, along with practicing green chemistry principles. Zeppelin Systems: This is the first K show that Wolfgang Horn, managing director at Zeppelin Systems (Stand 9B41), can remember where his clients have come prepared to buy product directly from the booth. Read more here.
ifw mould tec GmbH: After nearly 40 years in the mold manufacturing business, ifw mould tec GmbH, headquartered in Micheldorf, Austria, needed to be revitalized. They brought in Friedrich Kastner, a physicist by profession, as the new managing director to help with the reorganization. Read more here.
Profile Solutions: A linear leak tester capable of testing the integrity of 11,000 bottles per hour with a single head is the highlight of the Profile Solutions stand at K (Stand 14C24). At K, the unit was testing 115-ml pharmaceutical containers at a rate of 10,900 bottles per hour. Read more here.
Leistritz Extrusiontechnik GmbH: Leistritz Extrusiontechnik GmbH (Stand 16F22; Nuremberg, Germany) announced the sale of seven lines to German masterbatch supplier Grafe Group. Two of the lines will be delivered this year, with the remainder to be shipped in 2011. The line running at its stand, the new ZSE 18 Maxx, has also been sold and is destined for compounder and distributor A. Schulman in Europe. Read more here.
Volastic: Faced with more orders, many Asian processors invest in more injection machines rather than considering the benefits of hot runner systems according to Bob Fill, founder of Thai-based supplier Volastic (Stand 12A33). But they are starting to appreciate the benefits, if one case of adoption in Thailand is any example. Read more here.
