Does anyone know of a software that allows you to view 3D files without having the original program? We are looking for a package that can read 3D

I found both 3D and 2D Viewer

I found both 3D and 2D Viewer Software useful as well. These two software features really exceptional. Copywriting Thanks for published!

Autovue is a program our company received with our ERP software (bought out by Oracle.)

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/apps-tech/autovue/index.html

Its a very powerful tool, as it allows you to measure on 3D models and provides, depending on the file, a tree of all the assembly parts of a mold base. We manufacture custom mold bases so its a piece of software that is used heavily in all aspects of operations.

There actually are programs

There actually are programs to open 3D without the original files. But the problem is that with most that I have tried you do not get the same quality for the 3D files as with the original exe file extension and software. But if you are not looking for the best quality you can just google to find the software and use it with no problems.

RE: 3D and 2D Viewer Software

Have you tried E-Drawings??
I think it is a free download for viewing 3d - 2d files. Most companies I have worked for are using it for a communication tool, as well as a viewer.

Chuck and Tom,

Thanks for the replies. I have seen the Spinfire on the web, but not the Autovue. Looks intriguing though the price is not listed. I also am evaluating ModelScan, which is Ok so far.

I will keep you updated when we decide which one to use.

RE: 3D and 2D Viewer Software

Bought one 6 months ago. I did research on six different brands. Tried them all, did a small DOE using four different people across 18 different objectives. We chose Autoview by Cimmetry. It is price comparable to the other ones. I would recommend it.

If you go to:

http://www.cimmetry.com you can download a 30 day free trial.

You can also try spinfire by actify, it came in a close second.

http://www.actify.com

I would use these two. They each have strengths and weaknesses but are both above and beyond most viewers.

Let us know what you buy.

RE: 3D and 2D Viewer Software

Hi Dave,
I don't have any experience with this software but you might want to look into it. Below are the web site and an excerpt from the article..........
http://cadence.advanstar.com/2002/0702/pr0702_actify.html

You can obtain SpinFire Pro from an Actify reseller or from Actify directly. Either way you'll need to start your quest at Actify's Web site armed with a list of the formats you want SpinFire Pro to support. The basic SpinFire Pro package includes support for 3DS, DWG, DXF, DWF, HPGL, IGES, ISO G, RAW, SAT, STL, VRML, and VDA file formats for $495, which should cover most Autodesk-centric shops with modest translation needs. For those in need of Inventor, Parasolids, Solid Edge, or SolidWorks support, those file formats can be added for $95 each. Additional support for I-DEAS and STEP is available for $245 each while CATIA, Pro/E, and Unigraphics modules are $495 each. Actify also offers a SuperPack bundle ($795), which supports about 15 mid-rage systems, and a Grand Slam bundle ($1,795), which supports about 40 CAD/CAM file formats.
