I have a client who makes pre-filled IV syringes.  He also uses those little bottles for drug compounds.  Currently the only 'filler' for UV protection is Iron Oxide that gives these bottles this material its amber color.  This stuff protects the drugs from degrading in the light but doesn't leech into the solution.

Is there any substitute for this protection?  Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Bill,
years ago we used a color call auric brown for polypropylene to get away from iron oxide pigments that would degrade PP. I think that was produced by DuPont.

Hope this helps.

Bill,

I used to work with parts for semi-conductor manufacturing that we molded from UV-blocking PC. The pigments were organic, as semi-conductor wafers can't tolerate metal ion contaminants. The supplier was GE (now SABIC, of course), but we also looked at similar products from Bayer (Makrolon). Our parts were transparent red, green, or orange and had better than 95% blockage up to about 500 nm. The pigment did not leach during washing but you would have to test it for long term solution storage.

Hope this is of some use,
