If they can't do the bar, maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Also EPCO machine rebuilders may be of help, they have redone a lot of older Nissei, but usually want to do the whole press.

Brad, thanks for the info. I was thinking along those lines with a cylinder repair shop. I've had a lot of those made in the past when I used to repair heavy equipment. Some of those cylinder rods were over 4" in diameter. But thats why I checked out this forum, because I don't know if it would hold up on a molding machine. Thanks again. Gerard

RE: Broken Tie Bar

Thanks Dusty, it is a hydraulic clamp.

RE: Broken Tie Bar

Is that not a hydraulic clamped machine?

RE: Broken Tie Bar

If Nissei can help you, stay with them. If you absolutely can not find a replacement tiebar you might be able to have one made. The companies that repair/rebuild hydraulic cylinders and rods might be able to make one for you. This is tricky because you have to have exact measurements for them to work with. I've never had a tiebar made, but I have had rods made for the injection carrige. (To hold the injection unit to the stationary platen.)
There are many possible reasons for the break. Worn pins and bushings in the toggle causing uneven pressure. Small tools running with too much clamp tonnage. One loose tiebar that puts more pressure on the others.
Good luck.

RE: Broken Tie Bar

Thanks for the info! Brent, I'm in southern California. The joke was fine. Looking at the machine from the operators side, at the hydraulic clamp cylinder end. The tie bar was broken in three places inside the nut. We noticed a gap between the nut and the hydraulic cylinder flange when it looked like the whole cylinder was twisting during clamp. At the fixed platen end, it looks as if the tie bar is shouldered. It spins in the bushings, making it hard to remove the other nut, so I can get the bar out. Thanks again. Gerard

RE: Broken Tie Bar

Pand,

I'm still tryin' to find a source for your tie bar! What area are you located in?
Not to be picky (this is for QA Inspectors) but don't you mean that the bar broke in front of the rear nut? If it was in back, it wouldn't matter. Don't get mad, people know I love to joke?

Thanks, and will look for your source during lunch.

Brent
