Hi Guys,
I'm working on a machine specific lock out tag out procedure for horizontal injection molding machines and was wanting to get in touch with somone that has worked on these machines and used a strict lock out tag out policy. The machines I am working with has several energy sources... Electrical... Chilled Water & Cooling Water, Compressed Air.
Basically I'm curious to know if it is ok to just lock out the energy source at the main breaker or if it is best to have them lock it out at the breaker, the electrical cabinet on the machine, and the e-stop...
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Bill is right if you cut
Bill is right if you cut electrical power all other will rest. we just clamped the tool too pull then cut power by main breaker then un-clamped tool then re-powered press and open press then pulled tool out and installed next tool once high clamp was there powered off and clamped tool in then re powered press. and we keep a log of lock out tag of each press and date and time. you should read osha book on lock out tag out it will help you out. most company say there doing it but yea ok right..
Rendy mold on
Hi, as Bill wrote, First
Hi,
as Bill wrote, First check the machine manual.
Do not forget, that not only electricity is energy.
Also press air and hydraulic !!!!
Be carefull with repairs of hydraulic system on machine, which has a hydraulic accumulator!!. Check follow instruction in manual. how to eliminate all risk !
Lockout/tag out is designed
Lockout/tag out is designed so that there can be no potential energy left in the press that when released would cause movement.
Usually this means cutting the electrical power. If your machine is wired properly all other energy sources will go into a 'rest' mode and relieve any energy.
Check your machine manual. Some of the electric machines that have had aux. controls installed aren't wired for this.
Hope this helps.
