The mold basically consists of a sprue, a runner, a cavity gate, and a cavity. The sprue is the channel located in the stationary platen that transports the melt from the plasticator nozzle to the runner. In turn, melt flows through the runner and gate and into the cavity. With a single-cavity mold, usually no runner is used, so melt goes from the sprue to the gate.

Plastic mold injection involves heating and high-pressure injection of a thermoplastic into a water-cooled mold. A thermoplastic contains properties that allow it to soften when heated and harden again when cooled. Polystyrene, a rigid material used by AMT to mold model kit parts, is one such plastic. The thermally durable qualities of the polystyrene and quick-cooling manner of the injection technique make it extremely time- efficient. Search for local molders and mold makers in your area. Take or send an example of split core/cavities and 2D layout.
Follow up with personal call and maybe even offer a free preliminary design layout if you really want the business. Be open to red-marked preliminary drawings. Each molder or mold maker has specific nuances that personalize their own style of mold-making. Always keep the preliminary simple until you find out what the customer wants to see.

You may even want to offer What-ifs for different design features and how they affect the part cost and mold cost.
