I do not know what material is needed for the manufacture of machines that you mean here. I suggest that you try to find out through a google search or advertise on the particular forum. ERP System

All of the part of the machine must be made from iron. So they can do any cutting on steel too.

RE: Metal Injection Molding
We have quite a bit of experience with MIM. See picture of comparison between conventional MIM part compared to Intellimold MIM part.

RE: Metal Injection Molding
I am currently conducting a research on MIM and was wondering where can I obtain information on the industry? That is, the size of the industry, who are the key MIM producers, current technology and latest developments of MIM.
Would appreciate any help/advice given.
Thanks!

Tflip45, you are wasting your time on this!!! Just buy the dang thing, dont make one!!! Whats up TREY!!!
RE: Metal Injection Molding
You are talking about Powder injection molding. This uses any sinerable alloy with a polymer binder. This is then injected into the mold. The resultant part has little strength. It has to have the polymer part removed by sintering, solvents or catalysts. See IMM archives I'm looking at Nov 2002 issue.
Why would you want to go through all the trouble of building a machine when there are MANY used molding machines that you could adapt to PIM?
Thixomolding uses magnesium chips that are injected at 1100F. Husky and JSW are only current manufacturers. This is totally different concept. Finished parts fall out of machine.

Thanks for your response. The temperature for metal injection molding is actually lower than that of plastic injection molding. We looked into purchasing a machine from MiniJector, but decided upon trying to construct our own simple design. Right now we're in the process of drawing the design, but I'll post any results or suggestions that we come upon during the construction. Thanks again.
RE: Metal Injection Molding
MIM machines differ from thermoplastic machines in a few critical ways;1) injection rates are around 10 times faster, metal conducts the temp out of the melt faster so faster fill keeps it flowing,2)screw geometry is different due to more mixing required to keep MIM and binder dispersed. There might be a difference in the barrel heats (higher) and maximum injection pressure (higher also). There was a company in Philadelphia,PA that made feedstocks and modified machines (Engels) for this process. This company has been featured in IMM. Hope this helps,Rick.
