Hi All

We have 30 plus hydraulic injection moulding machines and few of them have develop oil leaks as lack of investment and manpower. Has any one out there knows a simple way to detect oil leaks we have tried cleaning down but this is time consuming and due to cut backs i dont have personnel to do this.

Thanks in advance

OH! If the beaker fluid

OH!

If the beaker fluid separates with clear water at the bottom, you KNOW it is water, if the fluid clears with no water, then it could have been air, though I have never seen it that bad.

If it is water, you might need more than one oil change, plus the special filtering.

This sounds stupid BUT

If you have time and money to make scrap due to leaky machines, you have the time and money to fix them.

Go about it this way:
Find either the most important or worst leaky machine.
Fix it.

when time and money are available, pick the next one and so one.

Yes it would be nice to kill all the problems on a weekend but in many cases it isn't practical.

Try the "Chipping" approach above. Doing nothing only makes matters worse. Brent is right, hire and outside repair guy. When he's done, he's gone. Easy.

Hope this helps.

There are independent

There are independent contractors that can track down and repair your leaks. When they finish, they are gone.

Observation after cleanup is the only way I have used to detect leaks, though you might want to consider UV detection dye, if that doesn't work for you. I'd research that carefully before using it in a servo or digital hydraulic system

I know people in the Chicago area that can help you.

Keep on Molding!
