Hi guys,
When you install a VFD to an old IMM, what does the VFD take as input from the IMM and how does it use them to determine when to increase or decrease motor speed?  Thanks a lot.  Sorry for the newbie question.

Hi Bill, Point well taken.

Hi Bill,
Point well taken. My apology to all forum readers.

By VFD, I mean Variable Frequency Drive. And by IMM, I mean Injection Molding Machine. Thanks to Brent to have made it clear.

Hi Brent,
Thanks for your feedback.

I was told once that a VFD may use Pressure and Flow/Speed signals from a toggle press. I don't quite get how it works. Would you mind to share?

Will you still save with a VFD if your cycle time is short?

Thanks.

The Variable Frequency Drive

The Variable Frequency Drive gets various form of feedback from the Injection Molding Machine.
Pump load is a frequent form of feedback (don't dare call this FFF)

Motor Revolutions Per Minute ( not RPM) are governed and monitored but not the controlling feedback.
The timers play a role in feed back, for example after the hold time is dropped out the revolutions will decrease, and after the cooling time times out the motor speed will ramp up. Timers could be the timer functions in the microprocessor to old fashioned eagle type timers.

On a toggle press, the feedback can come from a position sensor, such as clamp locked position.

You can save a lot of money with Variable Frequency Drive. Had a Molder buddy in California with old presses that ran slow cycles, the state gave him money to retrofit his presses. He saved and the state saved juice.

Keep on molding!
