Balancing pressure front
Published: December 3rd, 2009
Automatic detection of the melt front using cavity pressure sensors can now be used to initiate reliable, fast, and automatic switchover to holding pressure thanks to a patent-pending development at sensors and process controls supplier Priamus System Technologies AG (Schaffhausen, Switzerland). However, the company believes the biggest impact of this development will be in automatic hot runner balancing where not only temperature sensors, but now also pressure sensors can be used. “While the balancing of multi cavities with cavity temperature sensors is a particularly favorable and robust process, the method using cavity pressure sensors offers the possibility of monitoring melt compression,” according to a statement from the manufacturer. Other possibilities for application of the principle are where valve gates can be opened automatically when the melt arrives or conversely, venting cores can be closed automatically. —immeditorial@cancom.com
