The new ERD Xpert series of compressed-air dryers made by Fasti GmbH (Kufstein, Austria) and distributed in the U.S. by Comet Automation Systems Inc. (Dayton, OH) is said to save energy in three different ways. First, the dryers have a shortened drying process from using high-volume compressed air at startup. Secondly, the compressed-air stream is cut back by 50% when the operating temperature is reached. Third, the system is said to heat up quickly using only 1kW of power. In order to counteract what Fasti says is a 400% rise in stainless-steel prices over the last two years, the hopper construction has changed, using stainless on the inside, with powder-coated steel on the outside. Available in hopper volumes of 0.5-62L, special version are also offered for polycarbonate CD/DVD production and for cleanrooms.
