Mauser Group talks production of IBCs in Mexico

With the opening of the industrial bulk containers (IBCs) production facility in Toluca, Mexico, industrial packaging provider Mauser Group has officially entered the Mexican IBC market.

Mauser Plastienvases International (MPI) is a joint venture between the Mauser Group, headquartered in Brühl, Germany, and the Mexico City-based packaging manufacturer Plastienvases. MPI will provide customers in the local market with various UN approved IBC valves and locking systems for the safe transport of liquid contents.

MPI's general manager Alexis Riedel told PlasticsToday that in the past, Plastienvases had successfully worked with Mauser as a licensee for plastic drums. The joint venture was an important foundation in order to enter the IBC market in Mexico, Riedel said.

"Mauser saw an increasing demand for reliable IBC solutions that are consistent in design and performance in the Mexican region - local companies are growing and global companies continue to expand their filling operations in Mexico," Riedel said. "Customers continue to invest in their businesses around the world and the foundation of MPI is therefore in line with Mauser's strategy to grow with their customers and with Plastienvases' goal to supply the Mexican market with a comprehensive industrial packaging portfolio."

MPI will supply customers in the Mexican market with UN certified IBCs that are capable of transporting 275 gallons (1000 liters) of appropriate industrial liquids and ingredients. The facility in Toluca is about 2700 sq m and is now fully operational, with about 25 employees.

"Global companies continue to expand their filling operations here in Mexico and local Mexican companies are also growing so the creation of this joint venture, MPI, makes sense," Riedel said.

The Mauser Group is a producer of industrial packaging with about 4000 employees and revenues of EUR 1 billion. Its largest business is plastic packaging, followed by metal, fiber and IBC packaging, reconditioning services and machinery for packaging production.

Plastienvases is a manufacturer of polyethylene containers in Mexico, with more than 30 years of experience.
