In the new DUO Series wire EDMs from Makino (Auburn Hills, MI), the DUO stands for “dual-use operation.” Users can choose from either V-guide or round Pico Precision wire guides with these new units. So, whether your application involves small hole threading, threading small holes in close proximity, maintaining land accuracy in contoured dies, cutting tapers up to 45°, or general-purpose wire work, you can do it all with this unit. Two models are available. Both feature a 20% footprint reduction compared to the SP Series counterparts from Makino. DUO Spark Generator technology in the newer models uses unique spark waveforms with multiple on/off sequencing. This reportedly ensures delivery of consistent spark energy, which provides superior performance in speed, finish, and accuracy, while also improving energizer life and performance. Dual independently controlled and monitored high-pressure flush pumps provide independent control over upper and lower head flushing jets, and pressures up to 290 psi to improve roughing speeds and aid in producing superior surface finishes. And with dual-anchored ballscrews, DUO machines are built to provide long-term sustained accuracy and precision, backed by a 10-year/20,000-hr ballscrew guarantee. Other features include dual work tank doors to accommodate loading of large workpieces and work area access without your having to drain and refill the work tank, dual feedback to ensure long-term accuracy and repeatability of movement and positioning, and dual-control operation.
