Enerpac is trying its hand in the arena of electromagnetic clamping. Its new system is designed for use with nonstandardized molds to provide clamping without expensive mold modifications. According to Enerpac, electromagnetic clamping reduces mold change time, and improves productivity. The system uses permanent magnets to generate a magnetic field in the clamping plate, holding the mold securely in place. Electric power is required to clamp or unclamp the tool from the machine, but it is not required to maintain the magnetic clamping force on the mold. The system can be mounted to any existing molding machine. Pricing information was not provided.
