Here's some additional information on a new product line for Direct-Line Products: robots. First mentioned in our May '00 NPE preview (p 32), these traversing robots andsprue-pickers are claimed to be ready-to-ship (2-day delivery) and easy to install. They are available for injection molding machines from 25 to 300 tons.
Key to these robots is their ease of installation. Direct-Line says installation costs usually add 10 to 20% to the cost of a robot, so why not do it yourself? The company says its 'plain-English' installation manual is comprehensive and explains all aspects of installation and start up for all three of the following types of robots Direct-Line supplies.
TA Series traversing 3-axis robots are available in four sizes to fit molding machines from 50 to 300 tons. Prices range from $11,295 to $12,695. For the higher price, you get model TA4048, which is for molding machines between 200 and 300 tons. Vertical stroke is 40 in., traverse stroke is 48 in. and payload is 8 lb. It also has a 90-deg wrist bend and controller with LCD screen.
SB Series sprue pickers are available in three sizes to fit molding machines from 50 to 300 tons. Prices range from $5495 to $5965. The top-end unit, model SB32, has a vertical stroke of 32 in., swing motion of 60 to 90 deg and a payload of 3 lb. It also has a controller with LCD screen.
SA Series sprue pickers are available in two sizes for machines from 25 to 85 tons. Prices range from $4295 to $4495. The higher-priced model, SA20, has a vertical stroke of 20 in.; swing motion of 45, 60 and 90 deg; swing radius of 14.25 in. and a payload of 1 lb. It also has a controller with LCD screen.
