Styron LLC (Midland, MI) has debuted a new polycarbonate resin grade in the Americas and Europe specifically for use in optical media. Calibre 1060 DVD can be used for all optical disc applications including CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray.

Calibre 1060 DVD is said to offer the high quality and excellent processing characteristics of its predecessor, Calibre 1080 DVD resin, along with improved ductility and toughness. High-flow properties allow for fast, reproducible cycle times and excellent pit replication, resulting in high yields for disc replicators even for the most demanding Blu-Ray disc format. Furthermore, the improved toughness ensures that discs are better protected from breakage. The result is a durable disc with crystal clear sound and video reproduction.

Calibre 1060 DVD possesses an MFR of 58 (300 ºC/1.2 kg), excellent mold release performance, and low birefringence over the entire play length. Effective August 2010, Calibre 1080 DVD resin will be discontinued in the Americas. In Europe Calibre 1080 DVD has already been discontinued. Stephen Moore
