DTM Corp. has released the Sinterstation 2500*plus rapid prototyping/rapid tooling system, a new version featuring ease of use, accuracy, and productivity plusses, as well as a lower list price: $299,000?25 percent less than its predecessor. The price includes installation and a full one-year warranty. DTM also will be making system packages available. These packages include all the equipment, software, material, and training required for specific applications. A functional modeling or metals casting package is available for $349,000. A metal tooling package, which includes a high-temperature retort furnace, costs $399,000. DTM will build its Sinterstation 2500*plus machines in its new, fully operational, 2000-sq-m manufacturing and assembly facility.

The new Sinterstation features a 50W and 100W carbon dioxide laser to allow faster scan speeds and productivity gains. Thermal control of the process chamber and laser module has been improved to enhance accuracy and ease of use. The new version has a build chamber that is 10 percent larger while its footprint is 10 percent smaller. What?s more, DTM will make a new Windows NT operating system for its software available to its Sinterstation customers in early 1999. In addition, DTM has entered into an agreement with Materialise NV, a Belgian software company, to include a limited version of its ?Magics? RP software package with the 2500*plus. Magics RP not only can scale, rotate, offset, and slice .STL files, it offers optional features such as the ability to measure, edit, and repair part files.
