Illig?s RDM 70K third generation thermoforming machine produced clarified polypropylene 3-inch diameter drink cups at NPE 2006. The machine offers substantially higher cycle speeds, along with improved forming quality thanks to an optimized and considerably accelerated forming process. This trim-in-place technology has allowed processing rates of 40 cups/minute when producing PP drink cups, according to the manufacturer. The third generation machines feature tooling innovations such as improvements in water cooling, reduced forming air consumption, and programmed control of downholder. According to the company, the benefits of this system include increased production rates and material usage reductions of 10-30% while maintaining target top load, and utility consumption decreases.
