Cincinnati Inc. Distributes BASF 3D-Printing Materials for Its SAAM HT Machine

ABS plastic, carbon-fiber PET and recycled PET materials are now available for Cincinnati Inc.’s high-temperature, small-area additive manufacturing machine.

Cincinnati Inc. (CI), a Harrison, OH–based build-to-order machine tool manufacturer, recently announced a distribution partnership with BASF 3D Printing Solutions (BASF 3DPS). CI now offers BASF 3DPS’s ABS plastic, carbon-fiber PET, and recycled PET materials for use with its high-temperature, small-area additive manufacturing (SAAM HT) machine.

Ultrafuse ABS is created from acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene polymers, and is the second most used 3D-printing material. Reasons for its popularity include its strength, flexibility, and heat-resistance along with its light weight, abrasion resistance and affordability. The material is suited for manufacturing low-cost prototypes.

Ultrafuse PET CF15 combines processability and low moisture uptake with strength and rigidity, all at an affordable price point, said CI. With this PET material, users can print new components that stay functional under high mechanical and thermal loads. It’s suited for the automotive industry, for jigs and fixtures, and for any applications operating in humid environments.

Ultrafuse rPET adds sustainability to the manufacturing process. The recycled PET looks and prints just like virgin material, and, much like its PET alternative, rPET capably handles jig and fixture applications, automotive work and prototypes.

These three materials add new manufacturing possibilities to the SAAM HT, but the potential doesn’t stop there. The additive manufacturing philosophy at Cincinnati Inc. is to get users up and running as quickly as possible, said CI.

“With our materials profiles, customers can open the box, download the profiles and have success without having to tinker too much,” said Chris Haid, General Manager of CI’s Additive Business group.

ABS, PET and rPET will join ULTEM, PEEK, polycarbonate and any thermoplastic up to 500°C as material options on the SAAM HT.
