Inductive tool heating proponent RocTool (Le Bourget du Lac, France) has signed a license agreement with Volvo Cars (Gothenburg, Sweden) that focuses on the manufacturing of the housing of the IntelliSafe module to the rear of the central rear vision mirror that contains the system's radar. RocTool 3iTech process reportedly allows perfect replication of the microstructure of the mold steel for the production of the part. 3iTech is used to heat the mold by electromagnetic induction, thereby enhancing tooling transcription.

Volvo licenses RocTool technology to enhance vehicle safety features

Inductive tool heating proponent RocTool (Le Bourget du Lac, France) has signed a license agreement with Volvo Cars (Gothenburg, Sweden) that focuses on the manufacturing of the housing of the IntelliSafe module to the rear of the central rear vision mirror that contains the system's radar. RocTool 3iTech process reportedly allows perfect replication of the microstructure of the mold steel for the production of the part. 3iTech is used to heat the mold by electromagnetic induction, thereby enhancing tooling transcription.

Radar housing incorporates microstructure on inner surface to prevent optical interference. 

Applied on the inside of the part, 3iTech reportedly brings significant changes to the optical properties of the surface of the plastic, preventing rising sunlight that enters the interior of the part from blinding the radar. As of today no other technology is reportedly able to realize such optical properties through a one-shot molding process without additional operations such as painting.

IntelliSafe is the term used by Volvo uses for active safety features employed in automobiles, including emergency braking, Blind Spot Information System, and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection.
