ABS blend serves static-sensitive products

Article-ABS blend serves static-sensitive products

Custom compounder Techmer Lehvoss Compounds (TLC; Clinton, TN) recently debuted a new material aimed at office machines, consumer appliances, industrial equipment, and other applications that need to be protected against static buildup. Components such as housings, enclosures, and internal parts molded from the new Electrafil ABS-1200/SD/FR will dissipate static, offer a V-0 flammability rating, and supply good impact strength, say company sources.

?This ABS-based material offers a combination of properties that?s hard to find anywhere else,? says Tom Drye, TLC?s global business development manager. ?When you need protection against static electricity buildup plus flame retardancy, strength, aesthetic finish, and a nearly unlimited range of standard and custom colors, Electrafil ABS-1200 is the ideal choice.?

The material has tensile strength and tensile modulus of 6000 psi and 310,000 psi, respectively; flexural strength and modulus of 6500 psi and 290,000 psi; and an impact strength of 2.5 ft-lb/in.?MM
