All-new, all-electric machine line

All-electrics promise greater efficiency, resulting in reduced costs over the long term, but the steep initial sticker price scares off many molders. Ferromatik Milacron has unveiled a new line of all-electrics, which are only available in Europe, that it says have been optimized to reduce future costs for any additional technologies, and therefore provide added savings.

The Elektra Evolution and Classic Series feature a wide range of clamping forces. Tiebar spacing is available in a wide range as well, and the machines? shot volumes measures 19 to 393 cu cm. In all, molders can piece together five different injection and clamping units to create 14 different machines individually suited for their processing needs.

Drive unit control is provided by a measuring system called Endat. This system precisely monitors the motor-axis position and transmits it to the drive via an Ethernet connection. Milacron says this direct position determination simplifies operation since frequent referencing is eliminated. The Elektra Evolution was designed as a complement to the Elektra Classic Series. The lines are intended for close-tolerance, demanding applications like the manufacture of CDs and DVDs. They?re offered in 50-, 100-, 200-, and 300-metric-ton clamp sizes.
