Austrian packaging supplier Alpla Inc. has opened an bottle extrusion blowmolding (EBM) plant in Raeford, NC as part of its continuing model of collocating manufacturing sites with brand owners for inline container filling. The facility, which has an estimated cost of $7.2 million according to North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue’s press office, is expected to create 40 jobs over the next three years, with workers manufacturing bottles for Unilever shampoos, conditioners, and body washes.

Alpla was enticed, in part, by a $120,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. Alpla, which offers stretch blowmolded and injection molded containers, in addition to EBM bottles and tubes, also injection molds caps and preforms. It has in-house production plants with more than 60 of its customers, and not counting this latest addition, it runs 112 facilities in 37 countries, with four in the U.S.: Atlanta, GA; Iowa City, IA; Jefferson City, MO; and Lima, OH.
