Wemo Automation AB (Bor, Sweden) has named Ewikon Molding Technologies Inc. (Rockford, IL) as the exclusive independent distributor and technical service center for its robotic systems in the U.S. and Canada. Wemo supplies a full range of automation products, including individual robots, gripper components, and safety enclosure cages, as well as complete automation systems.

David Boxall, president of Ewikon Molding Technologies, told PlasticsToday that he was introduced to Wemo at K2010 in Düsseldorf, Germany last fall. The Swedish firm's technology was already sold in several other countries by Ewikon distributors, all of whom highly endorsed the product line to Boxall during the show. "Further investigation proved to me that [Wemo] has a high quality product and offers innovative solutions at a cost-competitive price." Following some negotiations, the two sides reached an agreement, helping Wemo, which has been manufacturing robots for more than 25 years, gain a greater foothold in North America, expanding out from its current stronghold in Europe.

Wemo's servodriven linear- and swing-arm robots are suitable for injection molding machines from 25 to 1500 tons clamp force, tackling everything from basic sprue handling to more complex applications within integrated production cells. Wemo also offers a patented quick-change gripper system, in-mold labeling equipment, safety fencing, and recently started supplying its own line of conveyors made in Sweden.

Ewikon Molding Technologies, which has a centrally located technical center in the U.S. Midwest, will provide sales, installation, and technical support for the entire Wemo product line, utilizing factory-trained technicians. Ewikon is also the exclusive distributor of Germany's Ewikon Hot Runner Systems Solutions (Frankenberg).

Wemo has a presence in 18 countries with 25 locations globally and direct offices in Germany (Oppenheim), Taiwan (Nantou City), and India (Ahmedabad). The company has additional representation in Norway, Finland, Denmark, the U.K., Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and Israel.
