Global automotive supplier Bocar Group, specializing in plastics, aluminum die casting and machining, began construction on a new 350,000-square-foot facility in Huntsville, AL. The $115 million expansion, when completed, is estimated to bring more than 300 jobs to the area.
Headquartered in Germany, where it has facilities in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Wolfsburg-Hallorf, Bocar is a Tier 1 automotive supplier. Its divisions include Bocar, with two facilities in Mexico and Auma, and the aluminum die casting division with five facilities in Mexico, two in the United States and one in Japan.
The company’s plastics injection molding division, Plastics Tec, develops and produces injection molded parts for automotive interiors, trunks, exteriors and engines. Capabilities include multi-component injection molding, film and textile insert molding, interior painting and gas-assist molding.
After a global search for its new facility, Bocar chose Alabama “where good infrastructure, talented people and a host of excellent universities will develop our business while [the company] contributes to the social and economic development of this community,” said CFO Gerd Dressler in a report by Brandon Moseley in the Alabama Political Reporter.
Automotive production accounts for more than $5.6 billion of the state’s more than $35 billion in manufacturing output, according to a report in Thomasnet.com.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018.
