Famed English sports car maker Aston Martin is continuing its acceleration toward escape velocity to break free from its image as a classic car brand for aged James Bond fans. (Bond actor Sean Connery famously drove an Aston Martin DB5 in several early films.)

The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, hybrid-electric, mid-engine all-wheel-drive Aston Martin Valhalla marks a significant step in the company's drive toward fully contemporary supercar relevance.

Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers recently told us about the company's decision to drop the originally planned in-house-developed V6 engine, and the announcement reveals the unsurprising substitution of a Mercedes-AMG-supplied 740-hp twin-turbo V8 driving the car's rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

That combustion power is supplemented by a pair of electric motors, one connected to the rear drivetrain and another powering the front wheels for a total system power rating of 937 hp.
