BMW is a longtime motorcycle company, and with its AMBY concept bikes, the company is exploring how electric-assisted bicycles, electric scooters, and electric motorcycles could be programmed for use on bike paths and streets by using geofencing to limit their speed to appropriate levels.
AMBY stands for “adaptive mobility” and what could be more adaptive than the motorcycle that incorporates a skateboard for human-powered mobility after parking near the destination?
“The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY takes us into new territory,” explained Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad. “Our aim was to develop an extremely emotional vehicle for smart mobility in and around the city that offered maximum freedom. The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY really does enable our customers to experience urban life in a whole new way, cover distances more flexibly, and “break free” of the city from time to time, too.”
