Ube expanding polyamide plant in Spain

Ube Industries is expanding production capacity at its polyamide manufacturing affiliate in Castellón, Spain, Ube Corporation Europe S.A. Unipersonal. Capacity at the site will grow from 30,000 tonnes/year to 70,000 tonnes/year as of 2018.

Ube’s capacity for producing polyamide in  Spain will more than double.

The new plant will use its own exclusive technology for manufacturing a variety of copolymers and polyamides with both high and low viscosity. These will be used for technical applications, such as in the automotive and food packaging sectors as well as for manufacturing monofilaments, fishing nets, technical components and much more. Ube is a leading supplier of PA 6 and PA 12.

Signs point to growth in the field of compound manufacturing as well. A completely separate division will also be created in Castellón for this purpose and will begin production as of August 2017. Delivery routes will thus become shorter, and the European origin of goods, which is important for some buyers, will consequently become available

Ube says that current and potential new customers will benefit equally from the expansion in the polyamide and compound sectors. Due to the improved global availability of Ube products, the company can respond considerably more intensely to the individual needs of customers and have them implemented directly on site through its own R&D centre, which has been in existence for ten years. Research & development will thus work hand in hand with production.

50 new jobs will be created in Spain – so that overall more than 500 employees will be working for UBE in Europe. There has been an increase of 25 percent in the number of employees alone in the last five years.
