Aspiring and, indeed, seasoned automotive part designers might want to mark their calendars for this coming April 22 to 24, when ETS Inc. will hold its Automotive Plastic Part Design course at Michigan State University in Troy, MI. Attendees will focus on what to expect from a polymeric material and discuss in detail how to make the design process as easy as possible and fully comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

Topics include in-mold assembly, living hinges, squeaks and rattles, over molding, press-fit and snap-fit designs, and safety systems. In addition, this course will enable automakers and their Tier I, II, and III suppliers to achieve more effective communication. OEMs will learn how to initiate their concepts on a solid, communal basis, thus allowing for cost efficiencies and fewer second thoughts when they understand the scientific basis and fine-tuning that comes with experience.

Calling all plastic part designers

This course is targeted at automotive designers, product managers, project managers, research engineers, material engineers, graduate and undergraduate students, and anyone involved in the development and manufacture of automotive plastic products and systems.

Its content is intended for a variety of automotive segments such as interior systems, telematics, powertrain, safety systems, chassis, exterior trim, front-end modules, crash management, electronics, and other automotive and transportation applications that use plastic resins.
