K 2013 to address the contribution of plastics to mobility

The world's largest plastics show will tackle one of plastics largest contributions to the world: mobility. "Plastics move the world" has been announced as the theme for K2013 to be held from Oct. 16-23, 2013 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Multimedia, exhibits, and daily discussions involving experts from science and industry will highlight how lightweight materials in the design of motor vehicles, aircraft, and ships have benefitted modern civilization.messed_0.jpg

Messe Düsseldorf fairgrounds

Those events and displays at K 2013 will be organized by the German plastics industry under the overall management of PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. and show organizer and fairgrounds manager, Messe Düsseldorf. These groups have historically supplemented exhibitors' presentations with forward-looking themes that reinforce the K show's position as "the trend barometer and innovation forum for the entire industry", according to Messe Düsseldorf.

Watch for your K2013 invitation

As Messe Düsseldorf publicizes the trade fair it will do so under slogan "K makes the difference." Exhibitors invitations will be sent out worldwide at the beginning of 2012, targeting plastics and rubber machinery and equipment, raw materials, and auxiliaries suppliers, as well as producers of semi-finished products, technical parts, reinforced plastics, and service providers. Exhibitors have until May 31, 2012 to register.

K 2010 featured 3098 exhibiting companies and around 220,000 visitors. The special theme for that show was "Visions in Polymers", helping show goers anticipate: "What will everyday life be like in 20 years? What contribution can plastics make to solve essential problems?". In 2007, the theme was "Plastic wraps it up!", an exhibit demonstrating polymers' contribution to the fundamental functions of packaging.

Executive council in place

In March, the K show's Exhibitors Council, chaired by Ulrich Reifenhäuser, held its first meeting. Reifenhäuser, who is CEO of the machine manufacturing company of the same name, is also the chairman of the German Plastics and Rubber Machinery Assn. (VDMA).  K's vice-chairman, Rainer Büschl, has also been carried over from 2010. Büschl is BASF's head of communications, performance polymers and will also lead the show's conceptualization committee. Thorsten Kühmann, VDMA's managing director, will again chair the show's organization committee.
