Milliken additive upgrades performance of Saudi-produced PP
Saudi Arabian polypropylene producer National Petrochemical Industrial Company (NATPET) is debuting a newly-enhanced PP impact copolymer grade for injection molding that employs Milliken's Hyperform HPN-20E nucleating agent in place of conventional sodium benzoate in order to achieve better shrinkage control and improved stiffness without affecting impact performance. Teldene B20ML targets market segments such as large pails and automotive. It can also be used in food and non-food packaging.

Teldene B20ML reportedly now provides converters with better stiffness/impact balance in both the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD). Further, the excellent isotropic shrinkage control facilitates dimensional stability to eliminate warpage. This, together with the improved thermal properties achieved with Hyperform HPN-20E, also provides downgauging advantages to converters.
The grade's excellent stiffness/impact balance with mid-range flowability and consistent quality reportedly allow cycle time reduction and enable lower machine running costs. At the same time, the improved isotropic shrinkage minimizes wastage.
In the course of upgrading the grade, Milliken supported NATPET in its efforts to optimize the dosage of the Hyperform HPN-20E additive. Better dispersion of the Hyperform HPN-20E nucleating agent was criticl in this respect. The Hyperform HPN-20E dosage is four times lower than the previously required NaBz loading, thereby reducing storage space and logistics costs at the NATPET resin production plant.
