A global leader in plastic welding technology, Dukane (St. Charles, IL) has completed the acquisition of Blackhawk Technology Group, a systems, services and contract manufacturer for laser plastic welding. The addition of the Aumsville, OR–based company broadens Dukane’s complex laser welding expertise and expands its capacity for laser plastic welding projects, the company said in a press release.
Blackhawk, a systems, services, and contract manufacturer for laser plastic welding, has a focus on end-to-end service, from basic material tests to full process development and contract manufacturing. It has had proven success in the medical sector, having contributed to the development of insulin delivery devices, smart inhalers and hearing aids. Blackhawk is said to have the fastest turnaround in the industry by utilizing a state-of-the-art lab, on-site machine shop, 3D printing and a team with hundreds of successful applications under its belt. With this approach, it is able to develop a complete welding process in days instead of months.
Dukane President and CEO Mike Johnston said in a prepared statement that “Dukane’s unique ability to weld clear to clear (2-micron) components without the need for additives has grown demand for our laser technology. In addition, because of our global support and advanced LaserLinQ technology, customers are requesting laser technology for 1-micron opaque-to-colored weld applications. This increasing demand makes acquiring Blackhawk a perfect fit for Dukane," said Johnston.
Blackhawk founder and Managing Director Dax Hamilton will join Dukane as Director and Global Product Manager, Laser Plastic Welding, and its current Director of Sales, Josh Brown, will join Dukane as Global Sales Manager, Laser Plastic Welding.
“Joining the Dukane team benefits Blackhawk by being able to tap into a much larger sales network and instantly scale our business,” said Hamilton. “In addition, Dukane has a strong global service and support team helping us, not only in North America, but in Asia and Europe, as well. We are confident that this additional support will fuel significant growth.”
Dukane will utilize Blackhawk’s facility to offer its other technologies including servo-controlled ultrasonic welding with patented Melt-Match technology. The addition of the facility in Oregon will give Dukane an advanced testing facility in the western United States.
