Benchtop Controller Features Advanced Tool Diagnostics

Benchtop Controller Features Advanced Tool Diagnostics

Athena Controls' Series HRX is a compact, control console for runnerless molding applications requiring control of up to 12 temperature zones, with settings by zone, range or group. Other features include tool-wiring diagnostics, which are designed to automatically locate wiring faults, thus minimizing downtime and maintenance.

Settings can be made globally across multiple zones from a menu screen for zones with common settings, such as those used for probe measurements. High and low limits can also be entered. This allows the operator to define an 'alarm band' for zone temperatures. Maximum power limits can also be set for any zone running in open-loop mode.

Series HRX controllers accept J or K thermocouple input with closed- or open-loop operation. They include tool storage and graphics of 'historical' temperature over the last 5 or 60 min of operation.

A large LCD shows actual measured zone temperatures, percent of output applied and setpoint temperatures in closed-loop mode. A sealed membrane-type tactile keypad is also included, along with LED indicators for normal, out-of-range and alarm conditions and software to prevent damage from 'crashes.'

On-screen 'help' minimizes training time and the screens relating to temperature setpoints, setting limits and zone operating modes are password-protected. Each time a password is entered, it remains valid only for the time that the menu is open. An alarm card, which can be used to actuate an alert light or audible alarm, is optional.
