Are you ready for the “world’s greatest” biopolymers?
The long-running Bloomberg Television series World’s Greatest…!, in its 17th season, thinks so: The show features Braskem’s “I’m green” bio-based polyethylene (PE) on an upcoming segment.
The PE material, made from sugarcane ethanol, will be the focus of the spotlight filmed at Braskem’s Innovation and Technology Center in Pittsburgh — one of six such Braskem centers worldwide.
“We are honored to have been selected to be spotlighted by the World’s Greatest…! television series,” said Walmir Soller, vice president of olefins and polyolefins at Braskem Europe & Asia. “In 2010, we launched our I'm green brand to manufacture bio-based products aimed at reducing our carbon footprint and creating more sustainable materials to support global supply chains across various industries. We hope our participation with World’s Greatest…! inspires more companies to invest in bio-based materials and fight climate change, protecting the future of our planet.”
Every ton of I’m green PE produced removes 3.09 tons of carbon from the atmosphere, Braskem claims. The material is also fully recyclable through existing curbside collection and mechanical recycling means.
Braskem’s long-range climate goals, according to a recent company statement, are to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Scope 1 emissions come directly from facilities and equipment, while Scope 2 are indirect emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling.
The Braskem segment will appear on two Saturdays, Sept. 16 and 23, on Bloomberg's network and various streaming platforms. Go to the World’s Greatest…! website to learn more.
