An insert supply system on display at NPE 2006 was especially designed to automate insert-molding applications for thin-wall parts such as mobile phone or PDA cases. Integrating inserts prior to molding can reduce part damage compared to postmold insert methods. The system supplies inserts from a parts feeder to a fixture through air tubing. From the fixture, robots can grab the inserts with accuracy. The manufacturer says more than 20 such systems are installed in South Korea and Japan for use in mobile phone manufacturing.
