Ewikon Molding Technologies Inc. will begin offering additional services at their in-house Technical Center that includes material sampling in Ewikon hot runners, mold sampling and short run production. Additionally, the center will also be made available for seminars, demonstrations, and training, such as the recently hosted Technology Day held on Sept. 23.
The newly equipped Technical Center in Rockford, IL, is designed to provide these services to molders and mold builders in conjunction with Ewikon hot runner systems. The Tech Center includes a Sumitomo SE100EV all electric molding machine and auxiliary equipment including chiller and mold temperature control units. The Tech Center provides a U.S. location for Ewikon to conduct material testing using its range of hot runner systems, as well as gives Sumitomo a local lab in which to allow their customers the ability to see a Sumitomo machine run.
David Boxall, president and owner of Ewikon Molding Technologies Inc., told PlasticsToday that the company often gets requires to tryout specific grades of materials in their hot runner systems. "We have three different types of molds in house, so customers will send in their material and we'll trial the material in our molds," said Boxall. "While we've done this before we've sent the material to our parent company in Germany. This was time consuming and not many customers could go to Germany and attend the trial. Having this capability in the Midwest opens the door to allow the customer to attend the trial and see the system and material run."
Boxall noted that there is a demand in the Chicago area for mold tryouts. "Some mold builders don't have mold sampling capabilities, or perhaps molders don't have the machine time to do a mold sampling, so we offer that service as well.
In addition to samplings, the Tech Center is the ideal place to host seminars, training and demonstrations of Ewikon's latest innovations and to showcase the advantages of both Ewikon's hot runners and Sumitomo's injection molding machine.
The company will also perform short production runs for customers. "We're not actively looking for molding business, but it's a service we'll offer to our customers if they have a short run they need done quickly," Boxall said.
Headquartered in Frankenberg, Germany, Ewikon is provides innovative, reliable and practical hot runner technology. The 35-year-old company produces proven hot runner solutions that optimize the injection molding process, enhance the quality of the molded parts, and reduce production costs. Ewikon Molding Technologies, the U.S. distributor, provides applications engineering, builds hot halves, performs installations and is the North American Service Center for Ewikon systems in operation in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
"The more services we can provide the more interest we get from companies interested in our hot runner systems," Boxall added.
