The 2008 Frost & Sullivan Global Plastic Packaging Additives Market Growth Strategy Leadership Award was presented to Songwon Industrial Co. Ltd. for excellence in its growth strategy and subsequent market penetration. Songwan supplies antioxidants, light stabilizers, UV light absorbers, heat stabilizers, plasticizers, lubricants and other chemicals. “Songwon has achieved rapid global market penetration in competitive and saturated markets due to superior growth strategies and high operational efficiency,” said Frost & Sullivan Specialty Chemicals Program Manager Robert Outram. Songwon claims to have already captured a market share of around 13% in just the span of a few years. The company has accelerated its penetration of the European and U.S. markets by establishing a direct presence in both regions through Songwon International.

UHMWPE typically sees use in applications requiring protection against friction, wear and corrosion. Sabic’s move places it in head-to head competition with the global leader in UHMW-PE supply, Ticona, which last year in China brought online a plant for its GUR brand of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
