Brushless motors for material loaders

A new line of brushless motors for loaders and small vacuum pumps promises to eliminate maintenance, function longer than traditional motors, and increase throughput. Designed for Conair single-phase vacuum motors, the brushless line reportedly eliminates the high maintenance costs of brush monitoring and replacement. The line is available on new equipment or can be retrofitted onto existing machines like the Conair DustBeater DB12 loader. In addition, the brushless motors are compatible with the new, small-volume SPP single-phase vacuum pump from Conair.

Compared with conventional motors, this line reportedly requires no maintenance over its 5000-hour operational life. In fact, the manufacturer says a brushless motor at Conair?s Technical Center performed 400,000 loading cycles without failure or maintenance.

The motors run at 1.3 hp with throughputs of 1000 lb/hr, compared to the 500-lb/hr capacity of the four-brush models. If used with Conair single-phase vacuum pumps, the motors are capable of 2000-lb/hr throughputs without three-phase power. Conair plans to introduce a smaller 1.1-hp brushless motor and a 240V model for applications abroad. The unit costs $200 more than traditional brush-type motors.
