Berry Plastics acquires Rexam healthcare business

Rexam's Healthcare C&C business produces bottles, closures, and specialty products for pharmaceutical and over-the-counter applications. The transaction includes eight manufacturing locations—five in the United States and one each in Mexico, France, and India, with total employment of approximately 1500 and 2013 sales of $262 million.

This news follows Berry's recent acquisition of a controlling interest in Qingdao P&B Co., Ltd., a China-based rigid plastic packaging provider. The transaction was approved by Chinese authorities in January 2014. At the time, Eva Schmitz, spokesperson for Berry Plastics, told PlasticsToday that the company's international expansion initiatives will allow the company to serve its customers' needs on a global basis and establish relationships with new customers that may be specific to that geographic region.
