Magna Steyr (Oberwaltersdorf, Austria), an operating unit of Magna International Inc. (Aurora, ON) continues to strengthen its worldwide network of engineering centers with the opening of its relocated Shanghai Engineering Center located in the Jiading district.

To meet OEM requirements in China, Magna Steyr's current engineering center in Shanghai was relocated to a larger building in the Jiading district that accommodates a newly built prototype shop which allows parts and equipment testing up to the development of complete prototype vehicles.  At full capacity, the new engineering center will be staffed by approximately 500 employees and can build up to eight prototype vehicles per week.

Günther Apfalter, president of Magna Steyr commented: "This new engineering center, with its expanded capabilities, demonstrates the execution of our global growth strategy. Through our expanded operations and resources, we feel we are well positioned to help our OEM customers meet their objectives while at the same time open up new possibilities in the growing China market."

Magna Steyr began its operations in China in 2004.  Since then Magna Steyr has grown to four engineering centers located throughout China and will open its first manufacturing facility with a fuel systems plant in Changchun later this year.

As a leading global, brand-independent engineering and manufacturing partner for OEMs, Magna Steyr offers engineering services up to and including complete vehicle development, flexible vehicle assembly solutions from niche to volume production, innovative fuel systems, and an entire range of roof systems. As a contract manufacturer, Magna Steyr has produced 2.5 million vehicles - of 21 different models - to date.-[email protected]
