Milliken acquires thermoset plastics additive business from Rebus

Milliken & Co. (Spartanburg, SC) has acquired Rebus Inc.’s pigment and additive dispersions for the thermoset plastics and high-performance industrial coatings markets. Milliken Chemical, a Milliken division that supplies plastic additives and colorants, said the move will allow thermoset and coatings manufacturers in fast-growing markets such as Asia-Pacific to take advantage of its global presence, technological expertise, and supply chain efficiencies.

Rebus and Milliken colorants are used in a variety of thermoset foam, coating, elastomer, adhesive, and composite applications.

Milliken will add Rebus’s pigment dispersions to its Reactint line of polymeric colorants, with the acquisition granting the company the opportunity to introduce those polymeric colorants to new sectors of the thermoset market. Milliken will continue to operate Rebus’s existing manufacturing facility in Aston, PA.

Rebus produces and supplies custom blended color dispersions and additives, including plasticizers and UV products, for a variety of resin systems, including urethanes, polyester, epoxy, and polyurea. Founded in 1992, the company moved to its current 40,000-ft2 building in 1998. Recent product introductions include the 2005 launch of the polyurea line, and 2006 release of an ultraviolet acrylate product.—[email protected]
