The Automotive Div. of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) has sent out the call for nominations for its Vehicle Engineering Team Award (VETA), which will be presented at the 40th Automotive Innovation Awards Competition & Gala on Nov. 9, 2010 in Livonia, MI.
This award is different from the other specific awards presented at the SPE Auto Gala in that it recognizes an entire team of designers, engineers, tier integrators, toolmakers, materials suppliers, and all those whose teamwork led to a significant integration of polymeric materials on a notable vehicle.
This will be the fourth time in the past seven years that the award will be granted, and the winner will be in excellent company. For example, in 2004, Porsche AG took the laurels for its composites-rich 2004 model year Carrera GT supercar, and Ford Motor Co. won in 2008 for the 2008 model year Flex crossover utility vehicle and again in 2009 for plastics innovations in the 2009 model year restyled Taurus sedan.
Submission deadline for nominations is Sept. 1, 2010 and there is no cost to apply. The nomination form, along with instructions and competition guidelines, can be found at www.speautomotive.com/inno.htm. Nominations accepted will be presented (live or via webinar) by the nominating teams during the first round of judging on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and the winner will be announced during the event on Nov. 9, 2010.
