Sabic’s Functional Forms and Röhm’s Acrylic Products businesses have officially joined forces to form Polyvantis.
The newly established entity brings together the Plexiglas, Acrylite, and Lexan brands to offer customers an industry-leading product portfolio, unique technical knowledge, and application-based expertise in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC) sheets and films, the company said in a press release. The products are used in various sectors, including building and construction, electrical and electronics, automotive, air and rail, healthcare, security, and lighting and signage.
Global presence
Polyvantis employs approximately 1,500 people at 15 production sites across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The previously announced board of directors consists of CEO Dr. Sandeep Dhawan, Chief Financial Officer Peter Stubbe, and Chief Transformation and Integration Officer Dr. Wolfgang Pöffel.
The company has its global headquarters in Weiterstadt, Germany, and operates North American facilities in Sanford, ME; Mt. Vernon, IN; and Long Salt, ON, Canada. It also has plants in Brazil, China, India, and South Africa.
Application-based expertise
“The combination of coveted brands under one umbrella will enable growth for our customers,” said Dhawan in a prepared statement. “We will join forces to harness our innovative strength, build holistic solutions for our customers, and create a stronger presence worldwide. With many years of experience in technology and product development, Polyvantis will provide unique and unparalleled technical and application-based expertise.”
The merger of the two businesses was first announced in November 2023, following Röhm’s agreement to acquire Sabic’s Functional Forms Division for PC film and sheet products globally in December 2022. The name Polyvantis signifies “many” from the Greek prefix “poly” and “forward” from the French “avant” and Italian “avanti.” This reflects the diversity of products and the pursuit of progress in the field of polymers and related materials, Röhm said at the time.
