Making good on its promise back in February that it would appoint a new management team this summer following the announcement that longtime CEO Gerd Liebig would retire in September, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag named some names yesterday.

CFO moves into CEO role

Christian Maget has been appointed CEO of the injection molding machinery maker, replacing Liebig effective Sept. 1. Maget, who joined the company in 2013 and was named chief financial officer in July 2023, will continue to assume management responsibility for human resources and IT, said the news release.

Sattel named chief sales officer

The company also announced that Anatol Sattel will take on the new role of chief sales officer. He joined the company in September 2017 and became director of business development medical in April 2019. Sattel laid the foundations for the successful accomplishments of the medical technology team, said the news release.

Building on a solid foundation

In accepting the CEO role, Maget paid homage to Liebig’s leadership, which he hopes to emulate. “What the group has accomplished steering through some of the most challenging economic circumstances is testament to Gerd Liebig’s work ethic, drive, and integrity. From expanding our global sector capabilities to becoming the world leader for all-electric machines and competing in the digital world, his ability to continuously innovate cannot be underplayed. Mr. Liebig has been instrumental in expanding our service offerings as well as driving forward the development of more sustainable, automated manufacturing solutions,” said Maget in a prepared statement.

Technology Director Martin Pütz will report into Maget starting in September.

Sattel will oversee international sales and global customer service led by Andreas Holzer, which includes industry-specific business development teams comprising packaging, medical, automotive and electronics, and consumer applications.

The management team is completed by Takaaki Kaneko, whose position as COO remains unchanged.

Located in Schwaig, Germany, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is a subsidiary of Japan-based Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd.
