Systech 8700 is a system for measuring bottles’ oxygen transmission rate (OTR), and is designed to be an accessory for Sidel’s Actis 48 plasma coating unit. Sidel developed the machine with Systech, a British company that specializes in oxygen detection systems. According to Sidel, the world’s leading manufacturer of stretch blowmolding machinery, this instrument cuts oxygen measurement time in half for barrier PET bottles. The Actis 48 can coat 30,000 bottles/hr.The Systech 8700 measures OTR in 12 hours instead of the conventional 24-hour cycle. The system measures up to 12 samples with a single instrument, yet requires only half the space of other instruments on the market, claims Sidel. Measurement capacity can be increased by operating several devices simultaneously. The Systech 8700 technology (Sidel patent pending) is licensed to Systech, which manufactures and markets the system according to specifications and qualifications established by Sidel.
