CAD/CAM software brings power, flexibility

Article-CAD/CAM software brings power, flexibility

Cimatron?s latest CAD/CAM release is said to bring increased power and flexibility to the company?s product line. E 4.0 encompasses a set of 3-D design tools in a unified solid-surface-wireframe modeling environment. It?s designed to allow the user to manipulate imported data or create conceptual part designs with ease. The program integrates a variety of tools capable of splitting part geometry, finding and implementing engineering changes, creating electrodes and inserts, and detailing tooling components. The program reportedly reduces programming and machining time by implementing two-and-a-half- to five-axis toolpaths using high-speed machining, knowledge of remaining stock, and templates.

E 4.0 features a variety of new applications including MoldDesign, a 3-D solid parametric solution for automation of the mold design and assembly process. Also new to the program is QuickDrill, a knowledge-based application for automation of the plate-drilling process. E 4.0 focuses increased attention on high-speed and five-axis machining, where new strategies such as swarf machining and deep-cavity machining have been introduced. Swarf machining is a capability that is said to increase surface smoothness by cutting with the side of a tool rather than the tip.
