Targeting high-temperature engineering resins, Ticona (Florence, KY; www.ticona.com) announced plans for a 15,000-tonne/yr compounding unit to be installed at parent firm Celanese’s Nanjing, China complex. The facility, which is scheduled to come online in the first quarter of 2009, will produce compounds of Ticona’s advanced engineering polymers, including Vectra liquid crystal polymer (LCP), Hostaform polyoxymethylene copolymer (POM), Celanex thermoplastic polyester (PBT), Riteflex thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC-ET), Vandar thermoplastic polyester alloys (PBT), and Fortron polyphenylene sulphide (PPS).
Ticona said in a release that the compounding unit will support the newly created Application Development Center in Shanghai. Ticona, and its partners, operate five compounding sites in North America, one in South America (Suzano, Brazil), two in Germany, and one each in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Ticona, which had 2006 sales of $915 million, partners with Polyplastics in Malaysia, Japan, and Taiwan, and with PTM Engineering Plastics in Nantong, China.—[email protected]
