AkzoNobel’s Soliant paint film business completes phase one of Americas expansion

AkzoNobel's Soliant unit has finished the first phase of its Americas Region headquarters expansion program, adding a design studio, product development lab, and additional offices for customer support by renovating 20,000 ft2 of its Lancaster, SC facility. The new design studio will be state-of-the-art benchmarked by the company's Global Design Center and work in conjunction with AkzoNobel's Foresee Color Trend and Design Group outside Antwerp, Belgium. The new lab will support the design studio with product samples, research & development, and added capability for producing performance coatings.

With these added capabilities, AkzoNobel, which acquired the paint-film technology supplier Soliant in 2008, bills itself as a one-stop-shop for finishing technologies, offering liquid performance coatings; Soliant paintfilm and bright film; digital-image printing systems; metallics; pearls; tricoats; and 3D effects.

In addition to the expansion, the company also announced a new hire and a promotion. Tanya Philpot-Miko has been added to the company as a business development leader, and Len Poole has been promoted to global technical services manager.

Philpot-Miko most recently worked as the business development manager at Red Spot Paint, handling the General Motors account. Poole was promoted to his new position from his former job as technical/business development manager. Poole and his family will relocate to South Carolina from Michigan.
