The gross domestic product in Turkey continues to grow at a rapid pace, comparable even to China's, and the country's plastics industry is definitely along for the ride. White goods, electrical devices/electronics and automotive are just three of the hottest end-use markets in the country, and processors serving all three source a lot of bulk molding compound. With this in mind, an established supplier now has opened its doors in the country.
The supplier, Bulk Molding Compounds Inc. (BMCI; West Chicago, IL), claims to be the world's leading producer of thermoset bulk molding compounds. To tap into Turkey's growth the company has just opened BMC TetraDURTurkey Plastik Hammadde Kompozit Üretim Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi (BMC TetraDURTurkey). The BMC compounder with the very long name—46 consonants and 29 vowels if you're counting—is established approximately 20 miles east of the center of Turkey's capital, Istanbul.
According to BMCI, demand for BMC in the country is growing at a double-digit annual rate.
BMC TetraDURTurkey will employ 20 initially. General Manager for the facility is Hakan Unsal of BMCI's German division, BMC Europe (BMCE). "We are very excited about this strategic expansion into the dynamic composites market in Turkey. We feel there is significant growth potential with both new and existing customers. This move further demonstrates our commitment to growing our leadership position in the global composites market," stated Mike Huff, CEO of Citadel Plastics Holdings Inc., the holding company that acquired BMCI in 2008.
BMCI has two manufacturing sites in the U.S., as well as facilities in Mexico, Germany, Turkey, China and Brazil.
